Black Star Square, also known as Independence Square, is one of Ghana’s most iconic landmarks. It was commissioned in 1957 by Ghana’s first prime minister and president, Kwame Nkrumah, to celebrate the country’s independence from British colonial rule. This historic event marked Ghana as the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence, becoming a symbol of hope and liberation across the continent.
